CLASS INFORMATION:

Texas Residential Appliance Installer’s License Preparatory Workshop · $600 -$650
New 2023 NEC Codebook and workbooks for new tests.
September 1, 2023 the State of Texas is adopting the 2023 edition of the NEC Code. The tests and all work performed should use this new 2023 version of the National Electric Code.

In Texas, all service and maintenance of electrical equipment for swimming pools or spas requires an electrical license. For pool and spa service people, the proper license is the Residential Appliance Installer’s License (RAIL). Click here to learn more about this Prep Class.

 

This Workshop is also available for persons intending to replace and install residential appliances like dishwashers, disposals and ceiling fans.

 

The Texas RAIL License (or TRAIL) is required for swimming pool service and maintenance work that includes replacing pumps, underwater lights, motors and heaters. Fines by TDLR generally start at $2000 per occurrence. This class helps you to prepare for the test for the license. Each person must prepare for the exam with additional study.

Multiple people in this workshop failed the license exam multiple times BEFORE this workshop and PASSED after taking this workshop and following the study guides. The Texas RAIL license exam is not an easy exam. Current pass rates are about 28%.

NRPA Aquatic Facility Operator
Class · $395
 

Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) is designed by the National Parks and Recreation Association for the best operation of public pools and waterparks.

Texas and other state and local health departments accept the AFO certification program for commercial pool operation.

The focus of the AFO course is large commercial pools and waterpark operation. AFO certification is often the primary choice of local Parks and Recreation managers.

At the end of the two day course, there is an exam that must be passed for certification. The 2 day class is also taught as a live online webinar.

The AFO Exam will be given at the end of the second day.

Every person taking the Exam must provide a valid Picture ID.

This certification is valid for 5 years.

AFO Recertification
 

For the recertification of CURRENT AFO certification holders, the person may choose to take a complete course as a review prior to the Exam ($395). A person must provide a valid photo ID prior to the Exam.

 

CMS- PHTA Certified Maintenance Specialist Class - 3 days 

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills for pool service people that are primarily cleaning pools.

 

This certification is great for preparing new employees for the job.

 

For experienced employees -

Are they doing the right things? Do they know why?

Can they explain things to the Homeowner?

The CMS class is the first step- then CST and CSP!

Basic Electricity for

Swimming Pool/ Spa Service 

This is a new class for swimming pool service people. This short course will give an overview of electricity basics-

ISPSC International Swimming Pool and Spa Code Review and Calculations Training for Pool Builders(ISPSC) ($350/person)
Live Webinar For Inspectors and Pool Builders-

This course is to review and teach calculations needed for plan review following the new ISPSC Pool Building Code. Pool Builders in all states should consider the ISPSC to be the minimum standard. In Texas, HB 2858 was signed by Governor Abbott creating stronger reasons to comply with the new building codes. This course is designed to help builders and inspectors understand many of the changes to pool construction and the flow requirements required by referenced codes. Builders should be aware of TDH and the proper calculations for the information that may be required on their building permit and /or which may help with legal issues that end up in court.

The ISPSC has been adopted by over 200 cities in the state of Texas.

ISPSC International Swimming Pool and Spa Code Review and Calculations Training for Pool Service (ISPSC) ($300/person)

This course is designed to help People providing repairs to residential pools many of the changes to the pool and the flow requirements required by referenced codes. This information is applicable to both residential and commercial pools. CPO® Fusion Class

For persons that prefer online training, the CPO® Fusion option combines the online Pool Operator Primer with one day of the CPO® in-class program and the monitored examination.

Step Two: Study and Complete the Pool Operator Primer. The Certificate of Completion must be presented to the Instructor for the Exam. (Expect the online program to take at least 16-20 hours-

don't wait until the last minute to complete!)

 

Step Three: Arrange and attend the last day of the two day CPO® class for the review and administration of the EXAM. You MUST bring a valid picture ID for the Exam. (Virtual class-$160 or In-person class $180)

CST- PHTA Certified Service Technician Class - 3 days 

This 3 day course is the second course in the series- CMS/CST/CSP to develop the knowledge and skills for pool service people. It requires 2 years of Pool/Spa Service experience .

 

This class goes beyond the CMS class with more emphasis on advanced concepts and equipment service. This certification is great for giving experienced service people the information that they need to answer questions and perform additional repair and service. 

After completing this pool technician certification course, you will be able to:

  • Explain common problems with pool finishes and how to repair them

  • Keep pools running more efficiently with a better understanding of circulation, filtration, hydraulics, and electricity

  • Grow your practical knowledge and gain troubleshooting skills and resources
